What Is The Sabbath?

The Sabbath is a day of rest, worship, and spiritual renewal that has deep roots in the Bible. It is a holy pause — a sacred time to stop, breathe, give thanks, and make room for peace.

The word Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word Shabbat, meaning to cease, stop, or rest.

In the Book of Genesis, God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day, blessing it and making it holy. Because of this, the Sabbath became a sacred time set apart for rest and connection with God.

Different faith traditions observe it differently:

  • Judaism: Sabbath (Shabbat) begins Friday evening and ends Saturday evening. It is a time for prayer, family meals, peace, and no regular work.
  • Many Christians: Observe Sunday as a day of worship and rest, honoring the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • Some Christian groups: Still observe Saturday as the biblical Sabbath.

Beautiful thought: The Sabbath is not just about stopping work — it is about making room for peace.

Why Were We Blessed To Have It?

For fifty-two lessons we walked together through gardens of grace, valleys of growth, mountains of faith, and quiet places of reflection. Along the way we discovered many truths about God, many truths about ourselves, and many reasons to trust Him more deeply.

❤️ We learned that the greatest joy is found in knowing His heart personally.

❤️ We learned that true peace comes through the freedom of resting in Christ.

❤️ We learned to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and to continue keeping our eyes on Him when the winds and waves of life rise around us.

❤️ We learned how God gently leads us from doubt to faith, patiently strengthening our trust in Him.

❤️ We learned that His promises give us hope as an anchor, holding us steady through every storm.

❤️ We learned that through Christ we are more than conquerors, empowered by His strength rather than our own.

❤️ And now we arrive at the final lesson and discover that through every season, every victory, every failure, every question, every tear, every prayer, every mountain, and every valley, Jesus has remained exactly who He said He is — Faithful and True.

❤️ He was faithful when you were strong.
❤️ He was faithful when you were weak.
❤️ He was faithful when you understood.
❤️ He was faithful when you doubted.
❤️ He was faithful when you waited.
❤️ He was faithful when you hurt.
❤️ He was faithful when others failed you.
❤️ He was faithful all the way to the end.

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.

4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.

12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.

13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Spiritual gifts are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to believers for the purpose of serving God and others within the Christian community.

These gifts are not for pride or show. They are given for service, love, unity, and the building up of the body of Christ. 🎁

Romans 12:6–8

Gifts such as prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, ruling, and mercy.

6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

Examples of Spiritual Gifts

  • Prophecy: Speaking forth God’s messages for edification and comfort.
  • Teaching: Effectively communicating and explaining God’s truth.
  • Serving: Meeting practical needs within the church community.
  • Encouragement: Motivating others toward spiritual growth.
  • Giving: Generously contributing resources for the benefit of others.
  • Leadership: Providing guidance and direction within the church.

Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

Spiritual gifts are given for the common good and to build up the body of Christ.

They help believers work together in unity, each contributing their unique abilities to fulfill God’s mission.

The diversity of gifts reflects the many beautiful ways God works through His people. ✨

Identifying & Developing Gifts

Believers are encouraged to discover and develop spiritual gifts through prayer, reflection, and involvement in the church community.

As gifts are used in love and humility, they become a blessing to others and help the church grow stronger, wiser, and more effective in service.
